The Mountain Guides

We had an excellent experience taking a Level 1 Recreational Avalanche course with The Mountain Guides. We did our course in Whitefish, MT. Between classroom study and field study, all topics in the curriculum were covered very well. The guides were very professional, knowledgeable, and fun. They kept things informal and fun, but still very educational. The field study days were a great mix of rescue, snow science, skinning, risk management, and some fun turns down the mountain. Booking the course was very easy and they were very responsive and helped us with whatever we needed. We definitely recommend TMG---it was both educational and super fun!

Did a couple of days of rock climbing at Red Rock Canyon; Ross on one day and Spencer on the other. Both the guides were amazing. Very friendly, experienced, safe, relaxed and fun while also pushing and challenging me on my climbing, and also happy to provide technical instructions where they saw teaching opportunities. Stellar experience, will certainly climb again with them!!

I had the opportunity to climb the Norepinephrine variation of Epinephrine with Zack of The Mountain Guides. This was one of the best climbing experiences ever. My climbing partner and I have been climbing for about 15 years together (25 years climbing experience for each of us) and we have hired guides for safety purposes. We engaged guides for all sorts of trips and Zack has definitely been the best. He immediately recognized the dynamic between us (we’re the best of friends), our climbing strengths and weaknesses, and our risk tolerances. He was able to quickly adapt to our personalities (we’re both childish idiots) so that we were both very happy during climbing. If you hope on climb Epi, you’re in for a long day. You will want someone that makes you feel safe while simultaneously allowing you to enjoy the climb according to your comfort level. Zack and TMG are definitely the people for this! Go climbing! Enjoy the exposure! Know that you will be okay and have fun during the climb! Choose TMG (and Zack specially)! You will not be disappointed.

If you are looking for an uber-experienced guide with great wit and excellent interpersonal skills I HIGHLY recommend Cheyenne Chaffe. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable non-judgmental and super fun to hang out with for a few days. He made this epic experience even more fun and enjoyable and all of the staff we encountered at JHMG were excellent.

Climbing with JHMG was an absolute pleasure -- don't walk towards them, run! (Or "Climb on!") Each of the guides on the trip was exceptional in their own way. Even though I didn't climb with her, I would particularly note K's efficiency and attitude -- her presence brightened every client's experience and the group's dynamic. I had the profound pleasure of climbing with R. He was a wonderful ambassador for the sport and for the company. He gave excellent and constructive feedback, pushed me appropriately, designed a blissful itinerary at a relaxed pace, and balanced offering enough information about the routes so that I was informed without feeling overwhelmed. It was a true joy spending the weekend with such a lovely person and exceptional guide.
