Andean Raju Expeditions

Could not have been better: very good communication prior to the trip, very good organization and very professional, friendly and considerate team on our trip (guide Darwin, chef de cuisine Merlin with star rated mountain cooking and donkey man Solio). The camping material is high quality. The donkeys and horses are well kept and well fed. We had to adapt the trek for medical reasons, good flexible solutions were found.

I completed an 8-day Huayhuash trek with Darwin and Persi in September 2024. Darwin is an experienced guide who closely monitors the trekkers and adjusts the pace accordingly. He's also a good cook—the meals were different every day, with dinner always starting with soup, and lunch served either on the trail or in camp. One important detail, which is often hard to find on operators' websites, is how much baggage the donkeys can carry. Andean Raju allows for 10 kilos, so you only need to carry a daypack with an extra jacket and water. Be sure to ask about this before booking! A pleasant surprise was the shower tent, where you could enjoy a bucket of hot water. There were no limits on drinking water, with plenty of boiled water always available for your tent or hiking day. A private tent is also offered for a reasonable fee.

Andean Raju is a well trusted and an amazing tour provider. I definetely recommend them as they were so accountable, professional and lovely during the challenging Huayhuash 10 day circuit. The 8-day mountain trek with Andean Raju was absolutely unforgettable! Starting with Pablo, who organized our trip, we felt well prepared for the trip. He met us at our hotel in Huaraz to answer questions before we left. Our guide Leo, chef Ciro, and donkey driver Percy made the experience exceptional—they went above and beyond in every way, especially compared to other groups we saw along the trail. Our guide Leo always offered optional routes to stunning overlooks, making each day unique. He taught us so much about Peruvian culture, vegetation on the trail, and environmental change. The chef accommodated my dietary restrictions (gluten free and vegetarian) with good food, and the donkey driver ensured everything ran smoothly/our stuff was well taken care of. Andean Raju’s attention to detail made the trip a true adventure. Worth every penny. Highly recommend Andean Raju for anyone looking to experience the most beautiful mountain range. Tip - it is very cold at night so pack a warm sleeping bag (recommend 0deg F bag) and many layers.

Wow, Wow, Wow! Andean Raju Expeditions has exceeded my expectations since the beginning. A few months ago, I started writing and contacting several companies in Huaraz that offered the Huayhuash mountain range trek. Many were unresponsive. It took me about 2 weeks to find Pablo and Andean Raju exp. From the first contact I knew this company was different. Always attentive, answering all my questions and solving doubts I might have. When I arrived in Huaraz, Pablo helped me organize and recommend some trek adaptation to the height (much needed to do before this 10-day trek). And the day of departure came. The Ace team were 5 solo passengers, magnificent guide Darwin, chef Madwin who worked magic in the kitchen to keep us energetic to climb the difficult mountain passes, and two incredible muleteers Nemecio and Caseli who together with their 10 tireless donkeys and 3 horses have made our lives much easier and “lighter” during the days of trekking. Very soon we have created the family. The days were hard and very adaptable to the height but with the 4 wonderful humans who guided us without fear, with knowledge, taught us to fish as an unexpected plus. I was surprised how well they looked after us. Every morning we received from the Darwin guide the hot tea in our tents to make waking up as easy as possible. Lunch and dinner have been very delicious! I don’t really explain it to myself as our magician – Madwin was able to make so many rich and different meals in the harsh mountain conditions. In the afternoon we had the time to reflect with tea time. Each evening along with dinner was the briefing about the next day to be prepared for what awaited us the next day. It hasn't been easy but him with the team we had: Darwin, Madwin, Nemesio and Caseli has been a true blessing. Without them it would not be possible to pass all the mountain passes with wonderful views and magical places that I have only seen in the magazines until now. It should be mentioned that I have rented from the company itself: private tent, sleeping bag, insulator and the inflatable mat and everything has been in super condition and I have slept without any problems throughout the trip. I am already thinking about the next trip I will take with Andean Raju Expeditions. It is impossible to describe here how well we have been taken care of and pampered on the mountain in our moments of glory, but also in moments more difficult. Thanks for everything!
