Rmi Expeditions

Had a great 4-Day Rainier climb with RMI in August 2024. The guides were great throughout the whole experience, and while the route was late season technical, we all felt 100% comfortable with the guides ability, safety tolerances, and communication. Nicole, Pete, and Tom were all great guides I would climb with again.

I have taken several trips with RMI. The entire process is organized, efficient and professional.

The setup here is incredible, it’s laid out like a retail campsite with comfortable chairs, picnic tables, and possibly a fire pit (didn’t get a good look) in the center, a nice bar in the back, and a reasonable priced gear shop at the front. There are small mountain climbing rocks and an incredibly clean public bathroom that was even open at 6 am when I was getting ready to leave town. The prices at the shop were reasonable & the ladies gave me excellent recommendations for where to do some day hiking through Mt. Rainier (better, more thorough recommendations than the park ranger.) Really cool place. Definitely worth the stop if you’re on your way to the park.

Our RMI expedition on Mount Rainier was a frustrating and disappointing experience. From the start, we felt like we were misled. The guides, changed their attitudes drastically once we left Camp Muir, making it clear they were more interested in getting us back down quickly than helping us summit .When we reached Ingraham Flats, despite keeping up well, they began pushing us to turn back, citing that another climber had just done so. By the time we arrived at Disappointment Cleaver (D.C.), four of us were forcefully turned around. The constant emphasis on "safety" felt more like an excuse than a genuine concern, used to prevent us from continuing rather than guiding us forward.If the guides doubted our ability to summit, they could have made that judgment during our ascent to Camp Muir or even during the first day of training. Instead, they waited until the last day of the summit, only to crush our motivation with discouraging (but professional) words. The whole experience almost felt like a rip-off, as if they were more interested in doing the bare minimum (of taking us somewhere in the mountain)than actually summit. Absolutely not recommended.
