Salkantay Trekking

My best friend and I used this company to hike the Salkantay Pass to Machu Picchu last month and we had an incredible experience. While it was definitely physically challenging, I never felt nervous because all of the staff were so prepared and experienced. Overall, it was a very well organized trip that was well worth the price. The accommodations were good and all of the food prepared by the cooks was excellent. Everything was served family style and was very nutritious. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a guided hike to Machu Picchu. Our guide Juan Carlos was especially kind and accommodating, always taking everyone’s needs into consideration. He was very knowledgeable and genuinely seemed happy to teach us about Peru. This company also helps the local economy by supporting local families, businesses, and farms which was great to know. Overall it was a beautiful hike and an even better cultural experience.

My husband and I hiked the classic Salkantay Trek in early January and it was one of the most memorable experiences ever! Salkantay Trekking took care of every detail and took the planning out of our hands. Our tour guide, Cesar, was amazing. Besides keeping us safe, he shared his vast knowledge of the region’s rich culture and history on the trek and during the visit to Machu Picchu. Cesar attends to everyone’s needs and wishes and has a great sense of humor. He turned our group of 10 people, ages ranging from 25 to 61, into an instant family. He did everything but tuck us in at night (although he probably would have, had we asked him ). Our cooks, Rosalio and Alex, prepared delicious meals for us and were very accommodating with extra requests. David, our horseman, reliably transported our luggage. The scenery was stunning and the accommodations unique and comfortable. We could not have asked for more!

Highlight of Peru, everyday was a different environment, highly recommend. Our guide Freddy Apaza was great, taught us about Inca culture and history and many things of the Andes mountains. Was friendly and a great guide. Also best food I ate in Peru from the chefs Angel and Alex, delcious food.

Highly recommend this company! The Salkantay trekking experience was thoughtfully planned and facilitated. They provided lots of delicious food. Even a snack stop while it was snowing at the salkantay pass. Comfortable accomodation to rest your feet after a long day. And most of all, Jobibi and Joseph, our guides who were fun, helpful and knowledgeable about the history, culture and area. Don’t hesitate to spend the extra money to trek with this company, book it asap!

The Salkantay trek was the most physically challenging but also most wholesome experience of my South America travels. This is because we had the best guides - Wayna and Uri - who were available 24/7 and motivated us through the whole trek. The group energy was amazing! Also, I could not have done it with the support of our horse men and the kitchen team, especially our private chef Juan Champi who is a real champion! He prepared food according to all allergies and preferences but what I want to highlight is that we always had such a variety and deliciousness of foods that gave us the necessary energy to do this. It was really tasty and always a lot! Moreover, the accommodations are all incredible and really give you the glamping mountain vibe (especially when you cannot afford it in Patagonia!). I loved them and slept like an angel on each of them. All in all, great experience to discover beautiful, diverse and magical nature. It is more challenging than other tracks due to the altitude but with Salkantay Trekking EVERYONE can do it!! For me it was magical to reach the top and then see Machu Picchu on day 4 from the hill.
