Brought my daughter (17) with me (43) to the Intro to Ice Climbing 2 day. Could not be more pleased with the experience. Guides were super friendly and super knowledgeable. Taught us on things like proper ice climbing technique, but also setups and ropes. Really looking forward to taking more courses with them.
I climbed with SJMG for two days in the Ouray Ice Park. Because of scheduling for the two successive days, I enjoyed two different guides (Steven Van Sickle and Henry Kramer). Both were superlative! I have ice climbed for nearly 15 years with some of the best guides in the business. Steven and Henry were up there with the very best. I learned some nuances from both to improve my climbing efficiency. I am an older climber (yikes 75) and both Steven and Henry were very understanding of some physical limitations that I brought along with my ice tools. HIGHLY recommend!
Quality guide services
Booked a 1/2 day ice trip just to get the lay of the land and so pointers. Theresa did a great job!!! I feel like she gave us quality instructions, was safety conscious and put us on good climbs for our ability’s. I would recommend them
took a two day guided trip to the ouray ice park through san juan mtn guides. quite simply the best climbing trip ever. the front office and the guide were both top shelf. everything smooth and simple. i'll definitely be going again.
I recently took a 3 hour Photography for Ice Climbers clinic as part of Ouray Ice Fest. It was awesome to get out with 4 female guides, who were very knowledgeable, experienced, encouraging and fun. I appreciated the 3 guides (Katie, Kelly, and Calliope) who shared lessons on how to rig a fixed line and how to move up and down it in order to capture more exciting photos of climbers. The forth instructor was photographer Kiersa Koepnick, who was able to provide tips and tricks from the artistic side as well. Overall this was a really practical clinic and I walked away with some new skills and greater confidence. I'd recommend this course to others who want to hone their skills- and Kiersa is an amazing photographer, who you can also hire to capture photos and videos of you as you are out on climbing adventures.
